Meet the senior pastor

Pastor Carlos Hernandez serves as the Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel Glendale, bringing over 15 years of devoted ministry experience and 16 years of heartfelt commitment to the Christian faith. Raised in a Catholic household, Carlos’s early years were shaped by family challenges, including struggles with alcoholism. As a teen, he initially found it difficult to fully understand Christian theology, but little did he know that God would start speaking to him through old high school friends who planted the seed of Christ.

In 2009, Carlos and his soon-to-be wife, Loly, began attending Calvary Chapel Glendale. Their lives were profoundly transformed when they both embraced Jesus Christ at the church. This significant encounter led them to surrender their lives to God, resulting in their baptism in 2009 and a renewed sense of purpose.

Starting from humble beginnings, they served the church through cleaning, ushering, and hospitality ministries. Over time, Pastor Carlos’s dedication and passion for serving others grew steadily. In 2010, he embraced the call to youth leadership and teaching, focusing on nurturing the faith of younger generations.

His pastoral journey was formally recognized in 2019 when he was ordained, and in 2024, he was entrusted with the role of Senior Pastor. Inspired by the words of John 12:26, Pastor Carlos believes that true Christian service calls for surrendering one’s own desires to follow Christ wholeheartedly. He often reflects on the spiritual growth process, emphasizing that, like a seed, faith must be planted and nurtured to flourish and bear fruit.

Pastor Carlos and Loly are blessed with three wonderful children—two daughters and a son—and together they continue to faithfully shepherd and serve the Calvary Chapel Glendale community with grace, humility, and love.
